2012 - Your New Resolution

Written by Dr. Gayathri Raman on Tuesday, 03 January 2012.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I can't believe it is already 2012! How did you all spend your holiday?

For myself, the last two weeks in December I took some time off to stay at home to catch my breath
( in between at yelling at the kids :-) . I wanted to take this time to try new things that I just didn't have time to do before. I discovered a love of baking (from scratch :-). 6 batches of peanut butter cookies, 6 batches of chocolate chip/walnut cookies, 3 batches of sugar cookies, banana nut bread, 2 pineapple upside down cakes.....but I didn't eat all of them though !
So after all that sugar, I needed to burn those extra calories and took up Bikram Yoga. If you don't know what it is...it is the most incredible workout I have ever done. It is a 90minute intense yoga in 105 degree room. Fitness is my passion and I was always into hardcore workouts with cardio and weights. I can't stand still long enough to complete one pose, so I didn't how I was going to get through 90 minutes of this. But just after two weeks of regular classes, I have lost more inches now than I did before and am truly addicted. I feel taller (whoohoo..for once in my life), I hold my head up a little higher and walk a little straighter....and feel true muscle definition.

Taking on Bikram Yoga has definitely been the "bungee jump" of my life. I took the plunge into doing something I normally wouldn't have and learned that the fear of the unknown is often times scarier than the fear itself.
So I ask you, what is something you have always wanted to do, but just haven't ? Part of the mind body healing is letting go and be present in the moment.

The present time is a "gift" so stay here and just be and listen to what your body is telling you. It is your greatest vehicle that will take you to where you need to go and get there in style!
